We all know how much our furry friends like to get out and explore the environment around them. We also know how exhilarating a good hike can be for us, and our four-legged friends find the experience just as enjoyable. Here are the top 10 places to go hiking with your pup in the Southwestern US.

1.  Walnut Creek Park- Austin, TX

This scenic park is the perfect place for your pup to run free and explore. No leashes are needed here, so you and your best friend can go on that much deserved adventure. There are also some great water holes to help your pup cool down.

2.  Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve- Dallas, TX

Over 600 acres of adventure await you and your furry friend. Walk among lovely wildflowers and through a majestic butterfly garden while you and your dog get a little exercise.

3.  Mill Creek Canyon- Salt Lake City, UT

Fido is allowed at all times, but there are rules regarding leashes. On even-numbered days, your pup must be on a leash, but on odd-numbered days, Fido can run free as long as he/she remains under your control at all times. Also, don’t forget to clean up after your four-legged friend.

4.  Beaver Brook Trail- Golden, CO

This hike is for the more experienced and fit canine. Although it’s not far from the city, you and your pup will feel like you’re miles from civilization.

5.  Flatiron Vista and Dowdy Draw Trail- Boulder, CO

This 3.7 mile hike will take you and your pup around 3 hours to walk, but it’s guaranteed to be an enjoyable 3 hours. If you want to see the mesa decked out in luxurious colors, be sure to visit in early spring when the flowers are in bloom.

6.  Cabrillo Tide Pools Trail- San Diego, CA

At just a half-mile, this trail may not be lengthy, but it is well worth the trip. Enjoy a leisurely walk with your furry friend, but make sure he/she is on a leash at all times. This is also the only area of Cabrillo National Monument where dogs are allowed, so be sure not to stray off the beaten path.

7.  Solstice Canyon- Malibu, CA

This is a mild hike that you and your pup are sure to enjoy. Catch a breathtaking view of the ocean while you get a bit of exercise. Just make sure your pup is on a leash.

8.  Mandeville Fire Canyon Road- Los Angeles, CA

With 10 miles of trails to choose from, you and your furry friend will have a peaceful hike through this lovely park. Enjoy views of the ocean and the surrounding mountains while you and your pup spend some quality time together.

9.  Mount Hollywood Trail- Los Angeles, CA

This 3-mile hike will take about an hour and half to walk with your furry friend. Not only will you and your pup find this hike relaxing, but you’ll also be able to see some of the best views of the Hollywood sign and the Los Angeles basin. Make memories that will last a lifetime… for you and your pal.

10. Agua Caliente Hill Trail- Tucson, AZ

This trail is not for pups that are new to hiking. Being 9.25 miles total, it includes a good deal of climbing and is moderately strenuous. Since this trail is located in the desert, the best time to tackle this trail is during the winter months. DO NOT attempt to hike this trail in the summertime, as the temperatures get too high and it is dangerous for you and your dog.
